HBOIERC's Fashion Design program has existed for 5 years. It it an elective, vocational program that has courses for students in grades 9-12. Students get to design, pattern draft, and create different types of garments. It is a classroom where creatively, hard-work, and fun are encouraged.
HBOIERC Fashion Design Courses
This course is a beginner course, where students complete many clothing construction projects, including PJ pants, hoodie, jogging pants, and other projects of their choice.
Introduction to Fashion Design & Technology 20S
This is a beginner course, where students learn how to sketch designs and the basics of pattern drafting. Students construct a sweater, button-shirt, and a final project of their choice.
Knitwear Design and Construction 30S
In this course, students learn to draft patterns for and sew with knitwear (stretchy fabrics). They construct knitwear top and pants, including sweaters, jogging pants, leggings, etc.
Semi-Formal Wear Design & Construction 30S
In this course, students learn about dress pattern and sewing techniques and they get to design and create a semi-formal wear dress.
Pant Design and Construction 30S
This course gives an overview of pant construction techniques. Students study the anatomy, theory and evolution of pants. Students design and create pants (sweats, shorts, and jeans) incorporating techniques from the sewing and patternmaking portfolio created.
Textile Design 40S
In this course, students learn about fabric dyeing, vinyl pressing, embroidery, beading, etc.
Formal Wear Design and Construction 40S
In this course, students learn about dress pattern and sewing techniques and they get to design and create a formal wear dress.
Fashion Design Entrepreneurship 40S
In this course, students learn about the fashion industry and get practical experience that they can use to create their own small business or get a job in the fashion industry.
